Situated in the charming coastal town of Vilankulo, in Mozambique’s subtropical Inhambane Province, the lodge is perfectly positioned for exploring the extraordinary Bazaruto Archipelago and National Park. Renowned for pristine islands, vibrant coral reefs, and exceptional snorkelling, diving, and big game fishing, this protected marine reserve is among the most unspoilt in the Western Indian Ocean.
Vilanculos Beach Lodge has received the official INAE Clean and Safe Seal of approval which guarantees that we comply with all our sanitary measures including COVID protocols.
Vilanculos Beach Lodge is thoughtfully crafted from natural, indigenous materials, including traditional thatch roofing and locally sourced hardwood simbire poles, elegantly complemented by soft plaster finishes and timber-framed doors and windows. The result is a refined yet relaxed aesthetic that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The property extends directly onto the beach, with the lodge buildings positioned approximately 100 metres back along the ridge, allowing for elevated, uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean.
The lodge offers 21 rooms, accommodating up to 46 guests, comprising Luxury Double Bungalows and a single Family Suite. Discreetly set within private gardens, each room features a private deck, air-conditioning, an en-suite shower, mosquito net, in-room safe, and coffee and tea-making facilities, complemented by carefully selected amenities designed for comfort and ease.
All rooms are finished with open-plan bathrooms and complimentary toiletries, while selected suites include a dedicated seating area for added space and relaxation. Vilanculos Beach Lodge is located just a 15-minute drive from Vilanculos Airport, and complimentary airport transfers can be arranged on request.
The Suite is built on stilts and offers a superb view of the ocean and the islands in the distance. It has two en-suite rooms, a comfortable open plan lounge as well as a spacious covered veranda, perfect for those early morning cups of coffee or the late afternoon Sundowners.
Accommodation is in privately appointed Luxury Bungalows constructed on ironwood stilts with “majeka” (local thatch) roofs and beautiful mahogany floors.
The beautifully maintained gardens offer a harmonious blend of indigenous bush along the slopes surrounding the bungalows and pathways, paired with lush tropical palms and rolling green lawns in the guest leisure areas.
Around the main building and pool, the gardens are dotted with elegant palm trees that provide welcome shade during warm summer days. Discreet paved spaces are scattered throughout the gardens, creating peaceful, shaded corners where guests can relax and enjoy quiet moments immersed in nature.
The restaurant offers an elegant yet relaxed setting, with the choice of dining indoors or on the patio. For a truly indulgent open-air experience, guests may dine beneath swaying palm trees or beside the pool, surrounded by the gentle coastal atmosphere.
The menu celebrates a refined selection of Mozambican and Portuguese influences, thoughtfully paired with international cuisine. Fresh, locally sourced seafood is a signature of the dining experience and is frequently presented as the chef’s recommendation of the day.
