A small lodge with a big heart
Vilanculos Beach Lodge is a refined beachfront retreat where relaxed luxury meets authentic coastal charm. Set above the shoreline and overlooking the Indian Ocean, the lodge offers elegant accommodation, lush gardens, and a serene infinity pool that blends seamlessly with the horizon.
Vilanculos, also commonly written as Vilankulo or Vilankulos, is a coastal town in Mozambique’s Inhambane Province, the mainland gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park.
The lodge itself is a collection of 21 bungalows and one Family Suite, never hosting more than 46 guests across the property. The buildings sit about 100 m back on the ridge above the beach, built from indigenous materials: thatch, simbire hardwood poles, and timber-framed doors and windows.
We are a family-run lodge, small enough to know every guest by name, generous enough to make every stay feel effortless. Our team of gardeners, chefs, housekeepers, drivers and front-of-house staff are the quiet heroes who make Vilanculos Beach Lodge feel like home.
Designed for both leisure and business travellers, the lodge features a welcoming restaurant, an intimate conference space, and an express Day Spa. Every detail is thoughtfully considered to ensure a stay that feels effortless, personal, and unhurried.
Before you head home, wander into Charming Treasures, our little gift store. Across two display areas you will find locally handmade crafts, and custom pieces can be made on request.
Vilanculos Beach Lodge holds the Clean and Safe seal of approval from INAE, Mozambique’s national inspectorate of economic activities.

The Vilankulo coastline gives us so much. We give back through everyday initiatives at the lodge and long-term partnerships with two local organisations.
Community-led impact
We collaborate with ParCo, a local association behind community-led environmental and social projects in Vilankulo. At a central point in the lodge garden you will find buckets to take along on your beach walks. Gather any litter you come across on the shore, and on your return our staff will responsibly discard what you have collected.

A home for the most vulnerable
We are deeply inspired by the remarkable efforts of Goodwill Vulnerable Children’s Home, which supports disadvantaged children in the Vilankulo community. Supporting Goodwill is the cornerstone of our social responsibility programme, and guests are warmly invited to contribute: through a donation, by taking part in our lodge initiatives, or by paying the centre a visit.
